Getting Started
How do I clean a recording?
Open the app and import a file — an exported call recording, lecture, interview, voiceover, or podcast take from Files or iCloud Drive — or record a new take with the in-app mic. Echo Remover cleans it, and the result screen lets you toggle Original vs Cleaned before you save or share.
How does the before/after preview work?
After processing, tap the Original/Cleaned toggle to hear the same moment of your recording both ways and judge the difference with your ears. The free tier includes 3 lifetime before/after previews (up to 30 seconds each) per device, before any paywall — so you can confirm it works on your file first.
What does the strength slider do?
It controls how hard Echo Remover pushes on the room reverb. Gentle keeps the voice most faithful (good when there's only mild echo). Strong pushes hardest on heavy room echo. A middle Standard setting balances the two. You can re-run the same file at a different strength to compare. Strength control is a Premium feature.
Files & Formats
What can I import?
Exported call and meeting recordings, lectures, interviews, voiceover takes, podcast takes, and voice memos — the external speech files your phone's built-in cleanup can't open. Common audio formats such as M4A, MP3, WAV, and AIFF are supported.
The cleanup didn't fully remove the echo. Why?
Echo Remover is built for light-to-moderate room reverb. Recordings made in tiled bathrooms, large empty rooms, or halls can leave audible residual artifacts. Try the Strong strength setting for the most aggressive cleanup. For very heavy reverb, no tool can fully recover the original voice — in that case, re-recording in a quieter space is often faster.
Does it work on music or singing?
The model is trained on speech, not music. Cleanup may degrade musical content. For a voiceover over a music bed, clean only the voice track. Echo Remover enhances and restores speech — it does not separate or remove background music.
Do I need an internet connection?
Yes. Echo Remover processes your audio off-device, so an internet connection is required to clean a file. Your audio is uploaded over an encrypted connection, processed, and returned, then auto-deleted within 24 hours. See Privacy Policy for details.
Free vs Premium
What's free vs Premium?
Free: 3 lifetime before/after previews (up to 30 seconds each) per device, no account and no ads. Premium: full-length processing up to 10 minutes per file with a generous monthly fair-use allowance, per-file Gentle-to-Strong strength control, and save, share, and full history.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — the Premium Annual plan ($39.99/year) includes a 7-day free trial. You'll only be charged at the end of the trial. Cancel anytime in your Apple ID subscription settings before the trial ends.
What is the monthly fair-use allowance?
Premium includes a generous monthly allowance of processing intended for normal personal use. It exists only to prevent abuse of the off-device processing service — ordinary day-to-day cleaning of your own recordings will not run into it.
How do I restore my purchase?
Open Settings inside the app and tap "Restore Purchases". This re-applies your active subscription if you've previously purchased one on this Apple ID.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open the iOS Settings app, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Find Echo Remover and tap Cancel Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Privacy
Where do my recordings go?
To clean a file, Echo Remover uploads it over an encrypted connection to a third-party processor (Replicate), where the cleanup runs, and the result is returned to you. Files are held only briefly in encrypted storage (Cloudflare R2) and both inputs and outputs are auto-deleted within 24 hours. Your audio is never reviewed by a person and is never used to train AI. What permissions does the app need?
Microphone (only when you tap Record), Files / iCloud Drive (only the file you pick is imported), and Notifications (optional, for processing-complete alerts). Echo Remover does not browse your library or access files you don't choose.
